MGL’s Piped Natural Gas Supply begins in Uran

~       Begins PNG supply in Raigad district in phases

 Mahanagar Gas Limited, country’s major city gas distribution company inaugurated Piped Natural Gas(PNG) supply in Uran at the hands of  Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, HonourableUnion Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas. The other dignitaries present at the inauguration were Shri Sudhir Mungantiwar, Honourable Minister for Finance & Planning, GoM, Honourable Shri Ramsheth Thakur, Shri Prashantsheth Thakur, Honourable MLA (Panvel), Shri Srirang Barane, Honourable MP (Maval), Shri Maheshsheth Baldi, Ex Nagaradhyaksha & Trustee, JNPT, Shri Manoharsheth Bhoir, Honourable MLA (Uran) and Shri Rajeev Mathur, Managing Director, MGL.Targeted at the residents of Uran region MGL has already laid down an infrastructure of Steel and Polyethylene pipeline in the area and will be connecting various areas of Raigad in phases for piped gas supply.

The work of pipeline laying commenced in Uran area and approximately 4Km MP network has been laid and 50 nos PNG connections have already been done. Initially gas supply to these 50 consumers in Uran is now commencing. Spreading its network in phases, MGL plans to provide the convenience of the safe, convenient, cost effective and environment friendly piped natural gas to almost all feasible households in Uran area benefiting about 3200 households and about 16000 people. The PNG benefits will be extended to other nearby areas by connecting more than 7000 households, covering about 35000 people in coming years. This will not only help people in Uran area but interior parts too by making available about 40,000 domestic LPG cylinders initially and about 90,000 LPG cylinders in the coming two years.

In view of the vehicles opting for the eco-friendly fuel, the 1st DBS CNG station has been commissioned at Shiv Shankar Auto Care in Karjat.Further, MGL will be opening two new CNG stations at retail outlets (ROs) of  Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs)  to provide convenience of cost effective and environment friendly CNG to about 1500 Auto rickshaw and about 2000 other vehicles in this area in Uran.

Honourable State Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Mr Dharmendra Pradhan commented saying, “We are glad to inaugurate the supply of Piped Natural Gas for the residents of Raigad district on World Environment day where we pledge towards safe and pollution free environment. Using PNG and CNG will help the citizens to opt for safe, convenient and eco-friendly fuel and do their part towards environment.

Commenting on the landmark, Managing Director of MGL, Mr. Rajeev Mathursaid, “It is time that the country moves to environmental friendly fuels like CNG and PNG, and we’re making sure Raigad residents start getting PNG supply. In first phase we have begun with distribution of piped gas in Panvel &Uran region which will be followed by Khalapur and Karjat area spread across the district. It makes sense for a rapidly growing city to shift to CNG and PNG early on and preserve its environment. With emphasis on ease of access of piped gas, MGL is fulfilling its promise of providing safe, efficient and reliable fuel to residents.”

In the coming two years MGL alone will be making investments of about Rs. 125 Crore in Uran and nearby areas of Raigad district to develop PNG and CNG network and will be creating huge employment opportunities for laying, building and developing infrastructure.

Mahanagar Gas has been providing CNG and PNG to the residents of Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) for 22 years. Over 9 lakhs satisfied piped gas domestic piped natural gas consumers of MGL in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Mira-Bhayander and its surrounding areas are enjoying the benefits of economical and clean fuel. MGL’s domestic PNG consumers use gas for cooking as well as for heating of water using gas geysers. PNG is not only cost effective compared to alternative fuels, but is also safer due to its natural property of being lighter than air. Available 24 hours directly at the turn of a tap in the home, PNG’s unique convenience and other benefits make it the preferred fuel choice.
