Mahanagar Gas Limited - Maruti Suzuki join hands to "Go Green"

On the occasion of the upcoming World Environment Day celebrated across the globe on June 5th 2011, Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), one of India's leading City Gas distributors has gone a step further to transform Mumbai into a greener city. By partnering with one of India's leading auto conglomerates - Maruti Suzuki Ltd., the company has replaced its entire fleet of staff vehicles with CNG version of SX4 & Wagon R.

The induction of CNG cars was formally done at the hands of Mr. V.C.Chittoda, Managing Director - MGL, in presence of Mr. S.N.Burman, General Manager and Commercial Business Head - Maruti Suzuki, Mr. Allan Perrin, Technical Director - MGL and other senior officials of MGL and Maruti Suzuki.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. V.C. Chittoda, Managing Director, MGL said, "Today, it gives me immense pleasure and pride that country's leading automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki Ltd., has shared our vision of making Mumbai into a much more eco-friendly city to live in. We are looking forward to carry on this association with them for years to come which will go a long way in transforming Mumbai in to a "GREENER CITY".

Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has made constant efforts to spread the message of using CNG and with over 2 lakh CNG vehicles in and around Mumbai, the city has surely benefited with this alternative, safer and economical fuel option.

Today, the entire fleet of taxis, auto rickshaws, and majority of BEST buses, private cars and even heavy motor vehicles in Mumbai run on CNG supplied by MGL through a network of 150 CNG filling stations having about 750 dispensing points. CNG is cost effective compared to other fuels giving savings of over 65% in operating cost. Use of CNG today is reducing vehicular emissions by about 1000 tonnes per day making a significant improvement in city's environment. MGL's initiative on the eve of World Environment Day is a small step towards achieving its vision of a pollution free environment.
