Shri B.C. Tripathi, Chairman and Managing Director, GAIL (India) Ltd has taken over as Chairman-Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), Mumbai from 28th May 2011.
MGL is the pioneer in distribution of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in an around Mumbai. MGL has already spread its network across Mumbai, Thane, Mire-Bhayander and Navi Mumbai and plans to expand it further to Kalyan, Dombivili, Ambarnath, Badlapur, Ulhasnagar, Bhiwandi, Panvel, Taloja and Kharghar in the next few years.
Presently, MGL supplies PNG to over 5 lac consumers and CNG to over 2lac vehicles. Majority of BEST buses and the entire fleet of auto rickshaws and Taxis in Mumbai are running on CNG supplied by MGL.
Shri Tripathi has over 29 years of experience in the domain of project planning, management & execution, Operations & Maintenance and marketing.
Under the Chairmanship of Shri Tripathi, GAIL (India) Ltd., which is India's flagship Navratna natural gas company has recorded a turnover of over $7 billion and PAT of $0.79 billion during 2010-11. GAIL is the market leader in India's gas market. It is an integrated gas utility having presence across the businesses of gas transmission, distribution and marketing, petrochemicals, gas processing (LPG and liquid hydrocarbons), LPG pipeline transportation, re-gassified-LNG, City Gas/CNG ventures, and E&P etc.
Shri Tripathi is also the Chairman of Brahmaputra Cracker & Polymer Limited, Indraprastha Gas Ltd., and GAIL Gas Limited. In addition, he is Director on the Board of Petronet LNG Ltd., a joint venture of GAIL.
