FIRST INTERCITY (MUMBAI-PANVEL-PUNE) CNG ECO DRIVE ON 13TH NOVEMBER FLAGGED OFF BY SHRI MURLI DEORA, MINISTER OF PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS

In a first of its kind, CNG event, over 40 CNG cars / vehicles participated in the CNG Eco Drive on 13th November, 2010 from the Bandra Kurla Exhibition ground to Pune via Panvel using only CNG as fuel for the journey.

The CNG Eco drive was flagged off by Shri Murli Deora, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas. Starting from Bandra Kurla Exhibition Ground, the drive passed through Sion, Chembur, Thane Creek Breach, Palm Beach Road, Belapur, Panvel NH 4, Khalapur and Mumbai-Pune Expressway to conclude at the CNG mother station of Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) in Chinchwad - Chikali, Pune.

All the vehicles were provided the fuel before starting by Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL).

The Eco Drive was sponsored by Mahanagar Gas Limited, GAIL Gas Limited, Everest Kanto Cylinder, Mahindra & Mahindra, TATA Motors, Maruti Suzuki India, Indraprastha Gas Limited, Nitin Cylinders, Aavantika Gas Limited, Bhagyanagar Gas Limited, Central Uttar Pradesh Gas Limited and Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited.

The Eco Drive was organised with the objective to further popularize the use of CNG as a transport fuel in the city and also help to promote its usage along the highway, specially on the Mumbai-Pune route.

The CNG Eco Drive is a precursor to the NGV 2010 Conference and Exhibition to be held in Mumbai from 24 to 26 November 2010. NGV is the world's largest Exhibition and Conference and NGV India 2010 in Mumbai is expected to be the biggest among these.

Mr. V.C. Chittoda, Managing Director, Mahanagar Gas Limited, stated; "We are delighted to be the pioneers in this unique initiative as the Fuel Partner. We would like to encourage Mumbaikars to opt for CNG enabled vehicles for fuel economy, efficiency and betterment of the environment."
