Supply of fuel to CNG vehicles upto 16 years from the date of registration

Directives from Office of Transport Commissioner

The Office of the Transport Commissioner has recently issued directives that the vehicles which convert to CNG/LPG before completion of 8 years from the date of registration or the vehicles which are originally registered as CNG/LPG vehicle will be allowed to ply up to 8 years from the date of conversion or up to 16 years from the date of registration. The directives of the Office of Transport Commissioner is given below:

Subject: Supply of fuel up to 16years from the date of original registration, to transport vehicles in Mumbai besides metered taxis converted to CNG/ LPG.

Hon. High Court, Mumbai vide its order dated 17/10/2001 for PLI No: 1762/1999 regarding air pollution caused due to motor vehicles in Mumbai, had directed that if vehicles in Mumbai up to a certain age are not converted to CNG/LPG then they may be stopped from plying in Mumbai . Hon. High Court had extended the period from time to time for the same; accordingly the following time frame was implemented.

Consequent to this decision today the vehicles above 8 years, which have not converted to CNG/LPG, are barred from plying in Mumbai.

In its order dated 3.03.2004 Hon. High Court had extended the period of phasing out for transport vehicles besides autos and taxis (such as truck, buses, delivery van, ambulance etc...) above 8 years up to 31.12.2004. It had also directed that all vehicles converted to CNG/LPG, shall be phased out after a period of eight years from the date of conversion. This order is not applicable to taxis and autorickshaws.

The above orders of Hon. High Court being applicable to transport vehicles such as truck, tempo, tanker, ambulance etc..., above 8 years, it becomes necessary to bar the use of these vehicles in Mumbai after a period of 16 years from the date of original registration. However, the vehicles which convert to CNG/LPG before completion of 8 years from the date of registration or the vehicles which are originally registered as CNG/LPG vehicle will be allowed to ply up to 8 years from the date of conversion or up to 16 years from the date of registration. Hence, please do the needful to provide CNG /LPG to such vehicles up to 8 years from date of conversion or up to 16 years from the date of registration.
