Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary Department of Atomic Energy in the presence of Shri Murli Deora, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, launched Mahanagar Gas Limited's Phase -II of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) Supply in South Mumbai on 15th February 2009 at Sadhana-Sahakar Society at Churchgate.
At a function held to announce this launch the Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas lauded the efforts of Mahanagar Gas in bringing the convenience of sustained hasslefree supply of Piped Natural Gas to about 3.8 lakh households catering to more than 23 lakh Mumbaikars.
He further said that in South Mumbai, MGL has already connected areas like Mahim, Matunga, Dadar, Parel, Tardeo. Prabhadevi including prestigious establishment like Hinduja Hospital, National Association for the Blind, Siddhivinayak Temple besides, many other establishments. Detailing the expansion plans of Mahanagar Gas he mentioned that apart from South Mumbai, MGL will soon be expanding its network to cover the areas of Kalyan, Dombivili, Ambernath, Badlapur, Ulhasnagar, Bhiwandi, Tarapur in Thane with an investment of around Rs.1500 crores.
